Penn State's IR blog is everything I ever wanted in an IR blog. It is my role model blog. While I wanted to include only independent blogs in my blog reviews, this blog is pretty comprehensive. It's neat, clean, and contains relevant information for all IR offices. Best of all, it's up to date. There aren't a lot of IR blogs out there, and the ones that are there are woefully out of date. This one is on top of things.
Over the next couple of weeks, I will be using this blog for general research purposes, and writing more about it here. Check back!
I am an IR Geek, and this is the site for IR Geeks. Penn State seems to lead the field, and I have recommended to my boss that we start a similar blog for RISD. This blog is very helpful and speaks IR in laymen's terms, so it is easy for those new to IR to feel included. I love this blog!
ReplyDeleteHow long has the blog been in existence?
--- Not very long. It seems the first news items was written in March of this year, although the group was formed in 2009.
How relevant are the post to your over all topic?
--- Very relevant.
What helpful features does the blog provide?
---It is a peek into the way another IR office operates - what events they support, and how they engage the community with news, lectures, and articles. They do have IR resources for schools in several consortiums.
Does it provide support as well as information?
---Some, for some member schools.
How easy is it to locate information?
---It could be much easier. Their tag cloud is one word. Someone needs to learn to tag. Also, their search is broken.
What is the average frequency of posts?
---Every month or so.
Would you recommend this blog to others interested in your topic?
---Yes, and have as an example of a format I would model an IR blog upon.
